Daxton's open heart surgery is scheduled for this Friday, March 11th at the Sibley Heart Center at Egleston. We are nervous, yet somewhat relieved it is finally here. We will go in for his pre-op at 9am the day prior (Thursday) and won't find out the exact time of his surgery until then. We will post the time when they give us one Thursday. We've been told the pre-op will take most of the day. The surgery itself on Friday will take 4-5 hours including 1 hour to prep him. The average hospital stay is 1 week including 2-3 days in CICU followed by several days in the cardiac step-down unit, but each child is different. Only parents and grandparents are allowed to visit the CICU, but Dax can have other visitors (if we so choose) once he is transferred to the cardiac step-down unit. We will make that determination once we get to the step-down unit. Our main goal during our hospital stay will be to get Dax well and out of there ASAP, so while we would love visitors, we ask that you refrain from visiting him in the hospital unless we have given the okay. We will be allowed to stay overnight at the hospital with Dax in the step-down unit. Please check back here for updates as we won't have time to update everyone individually. We would like to thank everyone again for their prayers and support. It means so very much to us and we are blessed to have such loving family and friends. We hope to see you all very soon!
Love,
Bert, Jade, and Daxton

For family attending the surgery, below is a link to directions and parking. Be sure to park in area 1 shown on the campus map. If you plan to go in and out multiple times ask for an All Day Pass upon exit. You will need to tell them you are there for Daxton Betkowski in order to get the discounted rate. There is a cafeteria on the first floor of the hospital. We will let you know exactly how to get to the waiting area once we have a surgery time.
